About

Hey there and welcome to The Ballanced Journey! My name is Destiny and I am the creator of The Ballanced Journey. A little bit about myself: I am a mother of two beautiful girls, Keziah and Brooklyn. I’m also a registered nurse working in a Level II Trauma Center in Southern California. I’ve been in nursing for 15 years. I started out as an LVN and eventually obtained my Bachelors of Science in nursing (BSN, RN). Throughout my nursing career I’ve served many different patient populations leading up to my current service as a bedside nurse in a Trauma-Surgical Intensive Care Unit. This particular unit allows me to work with patient populations I am most passionate about serving due to my own personal experiences with physical trauma. My personal journey in life has brought its own set of unique experiences, some of them very painful, that have shaped the woman I am today; A woman determined to encourage those who may be struggling to show-up in life as their highest selves.

For as long as I can remember I wanted to become a nurse. As cliché as it sounds I’ve always had a passion for helping others, even when I wasn’t helping myself. So despite many personal roadblocks in the form of physical trauma, abusive relationships, unplanned blessings (named Keziah and Brooklyn) I became a nurse. I know these roadblocks along the way developed and refined my character and has now ignited my passion to help others.

Despite being a single mom of two, battling physical and emotional traumatic experiences, with all of the emotional debris left behind; with God and the loving support of family, friends, and community I PERSIST in my calling of blossoming into who I am destined to be. These support systems, and resources that have helped me along my journey are not exclusive to myself. Sometimes we just need a little help locating or even recognizing them. This is where I come in. Allow me to reintroduce myself. I am Destiny.

My journey through life, motherhood, and nursing various populations have taught me that many of us are doing the best that we know in terms of physical, mental, and emotional well being at any given time. However, what we know is often lacking in fact and our way of living is sometimes negatively influenced by external sources, generational curses and emotional baggage. I’ve been there.

Nursing is ranked one of the most respected and trusted professions in the nation. So it is my hope to gain your trust as an advocate for mental, emotional and physical health. Utilizing my knowledge from nursing and life experiences as a young-ish black woman, my mission is to share knowledge and awareness in a relevant, transparent and relatable fashion with content such as quick facts, health and wellness empowerment or simple opportunities for discussion with one another. I’m a firm believer that when you know better you do better so I invite you to subscribe to my blog so we can do better together on our journeys! Shalom.
